Fashion Design Degrees
Few careers offer more excitement than fashion design. To enter this high-energy, fast-paced business students must acquire design skills, an eye for trends and an understanding of the fashion industry.
The Fashion Design industry is a fast-paced, competitive, and ever-changing field. Hard work, determination, and a creative and technical mindset, as well as the constant passion to keep yourself focused each day, are needed to succeed in this field. Successful fashion designers must understand and be adaptable to all the changes and challenges of the fashion industry. They must have the ability to visually present their ideas and to actually produce them.
Fashion Design Degree Programs try to instill in students the characteristics that employers in the fashion industry want to see, including a strong foundation of fashion design, illustration, computer, and presentation skills. In addition to design courses that emphasize the principles and aspects of good fashion design, students gain hands-on experience in pattern making, clothing construction, draping and specialty fashion design. They also learn critical skills in creating storyboards and visual presentations from illustration and computer techniques. All graduates are expected to have successfully put together a portfolio of work to facilitate employment.
Upon completion of most Fashion Design programs, graduates may enter careers in positions such as Assistant Fashion/Accessory/Costume Designer, Illustrator, Pattern Maker, Pattern Grader, Spec Illustrator, Stylist, Technical Designer, CAD or CAM operator, and many more.
